DAVID DRAIMAN Interviewed By NIKKI SIXX (Audio)
April 16, 2013DISTURBED and DEVICE frontman David Draiman was interviewed on a recent edition of the "Sixx Sense" radio show hosted by MÖTLEY CRÜE/SIXX: A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx. You can now listen to the chat below.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, Draiman's new band DEVICE gave its first live performance last Wednesday night (April 10) at Soul Kitchen in Mobile, Alabama. Opening with "You Think You Know" from the group's self-titled debut album, DEVICE raced through most of the rest of the tracks from the newly released CD, including "Vilify", "Penance", "Out Of Line", "Opinion", "War Of Lies", "Haze" and set closer "Through It All".
The touring lineup of DEVICE features guitarist Virus from DOPE and drummer Will Hunt from EVANESCENCE in addition to Draiman, but no bass player or electronics programmer. Draiman told The Pulse Of Radio he prefers it that way. "I'll be honest with you, bro, I mean, we're playing to an electronic sequence that is on a track," he said. "We in DISTURBED do it, TOOL does it, ZOMBIE does it, MANSON does it — the list goes on and on and on and on. And so what we're playing to is all of the synth stuff that you hear, all of the loops...we figured, this is an electronic-driven project, we're not hiding behind the electronica, it's out front — let's not play any games."
DEVICE will alternate between festival and headlining dates throughout the spring.
DEVICE's debut CD was released on April 9 and is expected to sell between 35,000 and 40,000 copies in its first week of release, according to Hits Daily Double. That puts it in a close sales chart race with new releases from VOLBEAT and STONE SOUR that are predicted to sell around the same amount.
Draiman launched DEVICE last year with ex-FILTER guitarist Geno Lenardo, after DISTURBED went on hiatus in late 2011. Lenardo is not touring with DEVICE due to previous commitments.
